High blood pressure is one of the most common imbalances I see in my practice, with symptoms often increasing in the spring time and when clients experience stress.
Often times when people have high blood pressure, they may also be more prone to symptoms that go along with the energy pattern or "roots" associated with hypertension such as:
- Headaches at the top of the head or migraines.
- Red eyes.
- Irritability.
- Insomnia.
- Digestive upset.
- Joint, ligament or tendon issues.
To balance high blood pressure and other manifestations listed above, try adding foods to the diet with a cool energy property such as:
- Peppermint tea.
- Chamomile tea.
- Cucumbers.
- Dandelion greens (add just a touch to your usual salad greens or cooked green dishes).
Other foods that help to lower blood pressure include the root called burdock, often available in health food stores. This long brown root has powerful blood detoxifying effects and also can help to clear stagnation of the joints.
To prepare burdock, peel the brown layer and wash well. Slice the root into julienne strips and include in soups or stews and cook for thirty to forty minutes. Like anything natural, shifting blood pressure takes time but it can be done with diligent attention placed on diet and on reducing stress.
Also, if you are salt-sensitive (meaning your pressure rises when you increase your intake of salt), try the DASH diet which lowers blood pressure naturally. This diet emphasizes a low fat diet with lowered amounts of sodium. Most of my clients have had great success with lowering their blood pressure by at least 15 points when they followed this diet faithfully.
Qi emission healing and acupressure sessions with can also help reduce high blood pressure significantly. These types of healing sessions help to reduce stress and calm the flow of energy or qi within the liver and other internal organs that play a role in .
Also, qi gong movements and breath work have been used in clinical settings to reduce blood pressure naturally and to help individuals begin to limit dependence on blood pressure medications.
Aromatherapy can also be very helpful to reduce blood pressure. Essential oil blends that contain herbs that help to balance the energy of the liver such as lavender and chamomile can be very helpful.
